Lakeland School System contracts transportation services through Durham School Services. Our goal is to provide safe and efficient transportation to and from school for all students that qualify for transportation.
The Parent Responsibility Zone for Lakeland School System is 1.5 miles for elementary through middle school. If you live within this zone, you are responsible for providing transportation for your student(s).
Arrival and Dismissal Routes
Lakeland School System is sharing the cost with the City of Lakeland to install a temporary traffic light at the intersection of Seed Tick and US 70. This partnership was proposed by LSS to improve safety at the new intersection of Campus Drive and US 70 and allow for a protected left turn onto US 70 from Seed Tick which would then allow high school students and parents to take a right turn onto Campus Drive to enter the high school. Unfortunately, this light will not be operational for the start of school. Therefore, the Arrival plans that you are receiving are requested and not required for High School student drivers in particular. Student drivers will have the option of arriving via Canada Road and Campus Drive (the middle school car rider traffic pattern), although we are asking that the car rider pick-up line for high school dismissal enter via the new intersection of US 70 and Campus Drive. ALL high school dismissal will exit LPS with a right turn off of Campus Drive on to US 70 with no left turn allowed until 3:30 PM.
LSS and LPS leadership has worked in coordination with the City of Lakeland's engineering department, the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, and the Tennessee Department of Transportation to ensure that this new entrance meets all safety requirements. However, if you have individual questions regarding your or your child's access to LPS, please contact Seth Kuhl at skuhl@lakelandk12.org.
